Gilgamesh was a king of Uruk but his people were not fond of him. Gilgamesh was very arrogant and had a unrealistic goal of becoming immortal. Most people take this literally but i see it as wanting to become legendary and never dying in the sense that your energy will live on through the thoughts of people and be taught at high schools in 2012 after thousands of years of the epic being written, so in a sense I believe that Gilgamesh did achieve his quest for immortality living through others.
